CaribWorldNews, BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Thurs. May 6, 2010: The West Indies Cricket team is through to the Super Eight round of the ICC WORLD T20 tourney.
The Windies team will clash with Sri Lanka on Friday at Kensington Oval at 1.30 p.m. (12.30 pm Jamaica Time) in their first Super Eight match, while they will meet India at the same venue on Sunday at 9.30 a.m. (8.30 am Jamaica Time).
West Indies captain Chris Gayle has dedicated the team`s two wins that landed them in the Super Eights to the fans who have been supporting his side.
Both matches in the Group D first round at the Guyana National Stadium were played in front capacity crowds and the skipper said it was great to have see them `rally round the West Indies.`
On Monday, over 10 000 fans braved the heavy rain to see the Windies record their second straight victory. This followed the convincing 70-run win over Ireland in the opening match on Friday night.
`The victories should go to the fans. It was great to see that they all stayed around and waited even through all that rain, to see the result and I was happy that we could give them something to cheer about and bring smiles to their faces. They deserve the success for being there for us. The team is very happy to see that we are getting the support of all the fans,` Gayle said after the Monday`s exciting contest.
The Windies arrived in Barbados on Tuesday and had a full training session on Wednesday. Another full house is expected for this weekend`s matches and the Windies skipper urged the fans to `Bring It.`
`The crowd was fantastic in Guyana, and I still call on the people to continue with this sort of support. I think we have a good chance of making the Caribbean people proud, and with these two victories in Guyana, we should go from strength to strength. We just have to stay focused and play hard cricket over the next two weeks,` Gayle said.
