CaribWorldNews, EDGBASTON, England, Tues. May 26, 2009: West Indies Head Coach John Dyson has called for a big effort from all his players as they meet England in the third One-Day International at Edgbaston today.
The Windies are 1-0 down with the final and will be seeking a series-leveling victory. The first match was washed out.
`It is a case of wanting to prove we can play some good cricket. Let`s get on with it and do the best we can. We can play better cricket than we have displayed so far and we want to prove that. The players all believe in their ability and they know what is required,` Dyson said. `We are here playing an international match and we can still end the series 1-1. There is a lot for us to play for and the players are ready.`
Dyson was speaking after the side had a two-hour training session at Ebgbaston, which was watched by dozens of supportive fans. The coach said there is a lot to play for and the team will be aiming to overturn the six-wicket defeat from Saturday`s match at Bristol.
`There has been a call to action and there is plenty of personal pride at stake. The players all know that. We have talked about the conditions and what is required and it is time to put those things into action,` he added.
A victory in the final ODI would be good momentum for the Windies going into the International Cricket Council`s World Twenty20 Tournament, which starts on June 5. The West Indies have been drawn alongside Australia and Sri Lanka in that event.
`We have an important tournament coming up and it would good to finish against England with a win in the 50-over form of the game and then move on to the 20-over format.
