CaribWorldNews, DOHA, Qatar, Mon. Mar. 15, 2010: Jamaican Olympian Veronica Campbell-Brown on Sunday took the gold in the
women`s 60-m at the World Indoor championships here in Doha.
Her win marked the first gold for the Caribbean nation of Jamaica, which dominated last year`s world outdoors in Berlin and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Campbell-Brown, a two-time Olympic 200-m champion, was the surprise winner in a personal best time of 7.00 seconds at the Aspire Dome.
`I knew the race would be very competitive,` commented Campbell-Brown after the win. `I was very confident and mentally focused. I came here with a mindset that I would come out and execute.`
Second in the race was US Virgin Islander Laverne Jones-Ferrette while American Carmelita Jeter was third.
