CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Thurs. Mar. 6, 2008: U.S. First Lady, Laura Bush is set to visit Haiti next week, according to the White House.
Mrs. Bush is set to visit a US Agency for International Development education program and an HIV/AIDS clinic there. Haiti has been an early beneficiary under US President George W. Bush's President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief program (PEPFAR). And both the First Lady and her husband recently returned from Africa, where they visited those countries that have benefited from PEPFAR.
Mrs. Bush's March 13-14 visit will also include a stop in Mexico City, where she is slated to attend the launch of the US-Mexico partnership for breast cancer awareness and research and meet with breast cancer awareness educators and volunteers.
There was no word on whether the first lady would meet with leaders in Haiti or Mexico. The number of people living with HIV/AIDS in Haiti is estimated at some 270,000 by UNAIDS. – CaribWorldNews.com
