CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Mar. 19, 2010: Two former US presidents are set to touch down on the earth-quake devastated capital of Haiti Monday.
Presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush are set to visit the country to assess recovery needs following January`s devastating earthquake and to pledge continued support for relief efforts there even as shelter and basic necessities remain the priority for Haitian survivors of the quake.
Clinton and Bush will meet with Haitians during the visit and the government of Haiti and others providing assistance to earthquake survivors to discuss the country`s long-term recovery ahead of the March 31st donor conference in New York.
More than 200,000 people have so far donated more than $36 million to the fund headed by the two former presidents who are spearheading U.S. fundraising for Haiti.
The Jan. 12 quake killed a government-estimated 230,000 people and left 1.3 million homeless. Officials now estimate that Haiti needs $11-14 billion in aid to help it rebuild properly.
