CaribWorldNews, ORLANDO, FL., Sat. Nov. 7, 2009: A Jamaican national was shot and killed Friday by an Orlando man who opened fire at a former office building from where he was fired.
Otis Beckford, 26, according to police in Orlando, was the lone fatality in a shooting rampage by Jason Rodriguez, 40, who opened fire at the Reynolds, Smith & Hills, an engineering and construction firm which terminated his employment in 2007.
Beckford, an architect, was declared dead at the scene of the crime. He was a new father of a 7-month-old and was about to get married, according to reports by FLORIDA TODAY.
Five other workers were left nursing wounds. Four are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, the Orlando hospital said and range in age from 23 to 49 years old. Another patient at Florida Hospital is reportedly in good condition.
Rodriguez is in police custody. He is reportedly in immense debt and has been working at the Subway restaurant since losing his job. He filed for bankruptcy in February 2009.
