CaribWorldNews, DALLAS, TX, Tues. Oct. 27, 2009: Several individuals who claim they are victims of the alleged fraud perpetrated by Sir R. Allen Stanford, are now directing their anger towards the country that granted the former billionaire citizenship and a knighthood.
The Stanford Victims Coalition and the law firm Morgenstern & Blue have written over 50 US Senators and Congressmen asking them to block Antigua and Barbuda from receiving any funding from the International Monetary Fund.
The group alleges that Antigua profited from its relationship with Stanford for many years and has absolutely no regard for citizens other than its own in the scandal. Additionally, the Coalition claim that the government of the CARICOM nation has now actually stolen property rightfully belonging to others.
Further, the group claims the involvement in the $7.2 billion Stanford International Bank scandal is just one example of the country`s history of corruption.
Peter Morgenstern, of Morgenstern & Blue, and members of the Stanford Victims Coalition are reportedly due to meet with attorneys from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in Washington, DC this week to discuss the committee`s investigation into Antigua`s actions.
Antigua and Barbuda is seeking a loan from the IMF to help shore up its battered economy. The Stanford Victims Coalition, says on its website, it `is an international advocacy group dedicated to fighting for the recovery of the billions of dollars belonging to the thousands of innocent people who are affected by the alleged fraud of Stanford Financial Group and Stanford International Bank in Antigua.`
