CaribWorldNews, PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands, Fri. Oct. 23, 2009: Former Turks & Caicos premier Michael Misick has been cleared of a sex assault charge.
The case was yesterday discontinued due to a lack of evidence, Attorney General Kurt DeFreitas said. DeFreitas revealed that the decision was made after a thorough investigation by the Turks and Caicos Islands Police with the assistance of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigations.
`The complainant`s lack of recollection for a substantial period of that time also impacted adversely upon the prospect of conviction,` DeFreitas said.
On March 27, 2008, Misick was accused of rape by a friend of Lisa Raye, the wife of the then premier. The American national alleged Misick committed the alleged rape over a week ago at the Providenciales mansion he shared at the time with Raye. Misick had denied the claim.
