CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Thurs. Feb. 7, 2008: Guyana’s Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon, claims People's National Congress Reform Leader, Robert Corbin, `is making himself a fool.`
Luncheon’s comments come following Corbin’s remarks that Buxton is not the only village where criminals are hiding out. But the cabinet secretary, speaking at his weekly post-Cabinet briefing yesterday, said Corbin’s statements on Buxton `runs in the face of reality.`
He further added that government will not be engaging the opposition on the matter of the Lusignan massacre given the latest statements by Corbin. He stated that the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic, will `not engage or consult with any political opposition or others who have been distorting the administration’s legitimate actions and promoting ethnic division as a result of the Lusignan massacre.`
Luncheon added that Corbin’s other option is to have the issue addressed in Parliament. The Guyana Police and Army have launched `Operation Restore Order` following the January 26th massacre that left 11 dead. Officials say the aim is to flush out criminals from Buxton and other East Coast Demerara villages and to find the country’s most wanted man, Rondell Rawlins alias 'Fine Man.`
President Bharrat Jagdeo has said he would not engage Corbin until he acknowledged that Buxton is a safe haven for criminals. Meanwhile, Luncheon added yesterday that government has supplied the international community with a list of the Joint Services' needs as they continue their `Operation Restore Order.` These include weaponry and intelligence gathering, he said.
On Tuesday, the British High Commission announced that, before this month end, the capacity of the Guyana Police Force will be strengthened by the provision of equipment and the arrival of Police advisers from the United Kingdom to advise, train and mentor local personnel in key areas. - CaribWorldNews.com
