CaribWorldNews, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Weds. Feb. 6, 2008: Former Guyana education minister, Deryck Milton Alexander Bernard, is dead at the age of 57.
Bernard, according to reports reaching CWN, died yesterday morning after suffering a heart attack.
Bernard served as the minister of education from January 1986 to October 1992 under the Peoples National Congress government and held several portfolios including dean of the School of Education and Humanities. Up to the time of his death, he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Guyana. He was also the author of the novel, `Going Home and other Tales from Guyana'.`
The Government of Guyana and the PNC party both yesterday joined in expressing condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late minister, musician and Member of Parliament. Funeral arrangements were unavailable at press time. – CaribWorldNews.com
