CaribWorldNews, BROOKLYN, NY, Mon. Feb. 4, 2008: New York may be considered `Hillary` country but Jamaica-born, NY-based migrant, Gregory Smith, is rallying support for Senator Barack Obama ahead of tomorrow’s Super Tuesday election.
Smith, who shot to fame with a $25 contribution to Obama and who last year was invited to introduce the Presidential hopeful at a Brooklyn fundraiser, marched over the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday amid chants of `Yes, We Can.`
The father of two and hotel doorman, led a group of marchers over the bridge to help rally New Yorkers around the Africa-American senator, who faces-off against Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Primary caucus push for delegates.
`The day he becomes our next president the world will look at us differently and the world will see that at least we elect a president that did not support this war from the start,` said Smith, who cited Obama’s stance against funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as among his main reason for supporting the son of an immigrant and father of two in his historic bid for the White House.
Smith is hoping many New Yorkers and Caribbean immigrants especially, will jump on the Obama train tomorrow and vote for a `change.`
Smith’s call comes as Obama is set to address tri-state supporters at a rally in the Meadowlands arena at noon today. The event is set for the IZOD Center at the Meadowlands, 50 State Route 120, East Rutherford, NJ 07073.
And polls show Obama and Clinton deadlocked ahead of tomorrow’s big showdown in 24 states across the country. A CBS news poll found that Clinton and Obama both have the support of 41 percent of Democratic primary voters - a drastic change from early January, when Clinton led Obama by 15 percentage points. While Clinton\'s overall support has remained steady, Obama has made significant gains among men, particularly white men, and African Americans. White male voters are, however, split nearly evenly between the two Democrats, and Obama holds an 12 percentage point advantage among men overall. – CaribWorldNews.com
