CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Feb. 1, 2008: Wherever we are from, including the Caribbean, we have a stake in the Presidential election. Never forget it. While the U.S. President is far from all powerful it is just as true there is no single human being on Earth more powerful.
A simple statement by a President in front of a small audience in a sleepy town can still resonate around the world and impact the lives of millions. And as though we need to be reminded, one tragic decision by a President can change history in many ways.
Now the Democratic nomination for President is down to two and Democrats in 24 states will decide on February 5th which they favor. None of us can afford to sit on the sidelines – whether we are actual voters or just moral supporters. And of course all of us can volunteer or make a donation.
So here we are – with two choices – Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. We have no trouble making our choice and neither should you. CaribWorldNews enthusiastically endorses Senator Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States.
Yes Hillary Clinton is a woman and that works in her favor but no more than Barack Obama being a Black American and the son of an immigrant father. Going beyond gender and race, if you listen to the two candidates and their ultimate message, it is in stark contrast. Senator Clinton wants to return us to the `glory` days of the first Clinton Presidency. She can deny that characterization if she likes but her campaign proves otherwise.
Contrasting Hillary Clinton is the individual who clearly represents change - change that goes beyond any particular campaign position.
Think as long and hard as you want but the choice will come down to the past versus the future. Either you are basically satisfied and ready to return to the Clinton years or you crave something better. Do you believe there are basic flaws and injustices in American society that must be addressed as only a Change Candidate will?
Will Barack Obama change the world if he is elected President? Will your personal life change dramatically if Barack Obama becomes President?
Maybe not. But if Barack Obama is elected President we know he will not be tied to the past. That he will examine every issue freshly and seek new solutions.
And finally, if more than anything you are interested in the future of the Caribbean and the lives of Caribbean women and men, girls and boys living here in these United States and the region, with Barack Obama in The White House we will have the opportunity to get the attention we deserve.
We already know what changed for the Caribbean during the Clinton Administration. Nothing much at all – unless you count the thousands of deportees back in the region due to the draconian immigration laws of 1996, approved into law by President Bill Clinton. It is time for change. It is time for President Barack Obama!
