CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Feb. 1, 2008: Owners of the soon to be launched U.S. IPTV channel, Irie TV, have slammed trademark infringement claims by Jamaica-based Irie FM as ` false and unsubstantiated.`
Irie TV`s Bobby Clarke, in a statement sent to CWN, insisted that `Irie TV and Irie-TV.com are the registered trademark and domain name of Irie Jam Media, a New York-based media group that has been in operation for over 15 years.`
He said the Irie FM claim has caused irreparable damage to the integrity of Irie TV/Irie Jam Media, adding that Irie FM/Grove Broadcasting Corporation`s recent public claim of copyright infringement is `fundamentally scandalous, reckless and malicious (and) orchestrated to cause damage and to malign our wholesome reputation in the industry.`
Clarke said his lawyers are currently investigating the matter and will respond to Irie FM/Grove Broadcasting Corporation through the appropriate legal channels. He also indicated that Irie Jam had been a content partner with Irie FM/Grove for 4 years but the agreement was recently `mutually terminated.` Irie TV was launched recently to a packed NYC Times Square club.
IRIE FM began test transmissions in July 1990 with a heavy bass line and rocking Reggae rhythms. Officials recently insisted that IrieTV and IrieTV.com are the registered trademark and domain name respectively of Grove Broadcasting Corporation Limited and `that unauthorized persons have been using this mark or marks similar to our marks (Irie and IrieTV) on the Internet, in Jamaica and in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.` They added that they ` will be taking legal action against all persons who use or continue to use the mark without our permission.` - CaribWorldNews.com
