CaribWorldNews, ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, Fri. April 3, 2009: The new Grenada government says it has seen a DVD depicting an apparent money transaction between Eric Resteiner and former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.
The confirmation in a press statement Thursday comes months after a August 2008 request from the new Grenada attorney general to the United States Department of Justice for a copy of the reported video.
The tape was apparently viewed in the presence of Resteiner’s attorney on February 17, 2009. Now the Tillman Thomas administration seems set on continuing investigation into the `conduct of former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.`
But the country`s director of public prosecution insists a successful conclusion to the investigation depends largely on the cooperation of Resteiner.
The alleged scandal dates back to 2004, when the Miami-based online newsletter OffshoreAlert`s David Marchant, the article's author and OffshoreAlert publisher, published a report saying former trade counselor Eric E. Resteiner offered to cover travel expenses for Mitchell's delegation on a 2000 promotional and investment tour of France, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Kuwait.
Resteiner reportedly gave Mitchell about US$15,000 for the trip which some argue led to Resteiner being named a general ambassador. Mitchell has vehemently denied any bribery claims.
