CaribWorldNews, PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Sun. Nov. 8, 2008: Two girls and two boys were rescued alive from under a ruins in Haiti yesterday, more than 24 hours after the school in which they were studying collapsed.
The four, aged from three to 13 years, were rescued even as the death toll from the College La Promesse`s collapse rose to 92. Officials say 150 others were injured in the church school collapse in Petionville.
International rescue workers have joined local authorities in the search, which has so far rescued 35 people alive. Haiti authorities said more than 500 students aged between three and 20 were at school at the time of the accident, and fear the death toll will continue to rise.
Fortin Augustine, the owner of the school, was arrested Saturday as Haitian president Rene Preval blamed the tragedy on shabby construction and lack of government supervision.
