CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Tues. Aug. 12, 2008: JetBlue Airways is targeting the huge immigrant remittance transfer market.
The company yesterday announced it had reached a deal with money transfer giant, Western Union, to allow potential passengers to buy tickets online with cash.
Passengers can order by phone or online, then pay the fee at a branch of Western Union. They have until the next day to remit payment.
It`s the latest move in the company`s expansion into non-credit card options. It recently began accepting payment through the online system Pay Pal.
The effort is seen as one to attract immigrants, including those who are undocumented.
`It`s a smart move,` industry analyst Henry Harteveldt told Crain`s Business. `It allows JetBlue to serve customers who may have the cash, but have credit card limits or lack credit or debit cards.`
He said Continental Airlines and US Airways also accept wire transfer payments for tickets.
