CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. June 26, 2009: Caribbean entertainers are MIA from this Sunday`s BET Awards but Haitian singer Wyclef Jean, is set to be honored.
Jean is set to be presented with a Humanitarian Award while Rihanna is the only Caribbean singer nominated for an award.
Performances will be by Kanye West, Beyonce, Queen Latifah, Soulja Boy, Keri Hilson, Mary Mary, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, Fabolous, T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, Monica, Young Jeezy, Trey Songz and Tyrese. While appearances will be by The O`Jays, Alicia Keys, Tyra Banks, Taraji P. Henderson, Idris Elba, Sherri Shepherd, Anthony Anderson, Paula Patton, Estelle, LeToya Luckett, Nichelle Nichols, Keke Palmer, Ray J, Snoop Dogg, Ving Rhames, Zoe Saldana and Marlon Wayans.
The event will be broadcast Sunday, June 28 from 8 p.m. and will be hosted by Jamie Foxx.
CARNIVAL TIME IN D.C.
It's carnival time in D.C. this weekend. The Georgia Avenue corridor in D.C. will be turned into a huge street party this weekend as the 17th annual DC Caribbean Carnival gets underway.
The event will be staged along the Georgia Avenue corridor on Saturday, June 27, 2009, from Missouri Avenue at 11 a.m. and terminate at the international marketplace at `DE SAVANNAH` -Banneker Recreation Park featuring food, craft and entertainment.
DC Caribbean Carnival will host the international marketplace at `DE SAVANNAH` from noon to 7 p.m. This year, the DC Caribbean Carnival has partnered with Carib ID and the U.S. Census Bureau to help in the promotion of Census 2010. `DC Caribbean Carnival, Inc., is excited and ready to participate in this promotional effort to bring awareness to the local community about the importance of being counted in Census 2010,` explained Loughton Sargeant, DCCC Executive Director.

Meanwhile, Soca`s `Saucy Wow,` Denise Belfon, will be joining fellow Soca leading ladies Fayann Lyons, and Trini Jacobs, while Soca veteran KMC has been enlisted along with Benjai, Patch, Hunter, and the `King of the Dancehall` Beenie Man, to celebrate the `Fire Man` Bunji Garlin`s `Soca in Motion` 30th birthday bash this Saturday, June 27th in Washington D.C.
The highly anticipated event promises to be the highlight of D.C.`s event-filled Caribbean Carnival weekend.
Promoters Pumpstation Entertainment along with Bunji Garlin and the Asylum Band, have added the sassy siren and multi-talented Soca stalwart in light of the absence of Destra Garcia, who, due to circumstances beyond their control, can no longer attend `Soca in Motion.`
