CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. May 6, 2009: A Suriname judge has again denied an appeal to release an American-born impersonator, jailed in the country since February.
Despite the capture of event promoter, Angel Ventura on May 2, the appeal to release Trina Johnson, who was hired to present a private impersonation of singer Toni Braxton on February 27th was denied Tuesday, CWNN has learnt.
A new trial date has been set for May 26, 2009. Johnson, through her husband Ray Finn, has insisted she is innocent of claims that she acted with Ventura to fool fans who were apparently expecting to see the real Toni Braxton.
Johnson said her contract stated she was being hired in Suriname to do what she does best – impersonate Braxton for a private event. At no time, said her husband, did Johnson realize she was being herself scammed. Ventura had reportedly promoted the event as a show by the real Braxton.
